Post-Traumatic Stress disorder (PTSD)

Have you experienced a traumatic event and you are now struggling with flashbacks, nightmares or feeling on edge, having difficulty concentrating or avoiding things that remind you of the event? Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder can take over your life and at times cause debilitating symptoms. I approach PTSD treatment with trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). The treatment has similarities to how anxiety is treated, but often includes exposure therapy and cognitive restructuring to specifically address the trauma. These two methods will help you slowly face the trauma in a safe environment at your pace. This treatment will help you confront the negative thoughts and feelings associated with the trauma and regain control of your life. You will learn coping strategies to help face the distressing symptoms and get back to the activities and places you may have been avoiding due to the trauma. Please note I am not trained in EMDR, which is another method of treatment for PTSD.
